  • What areas do you serve?
We serve clients across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and select areas of NYC. If you’re unsure whether we cover your location, just get in touch.
  • How long does it take to complete a painting project?
The timeline depends on the size and complexity of your space. Typically, most projects take between 1 to 5 days, but we provide a more accurate estimate once we assess your specific needs.
  • Are your painters insured?
Yes, all our painters are fully insured and EPA lead certified to ensure your peace of mind throughout the project. Our insurance coverage also includes “action over labor law” coverage, which some high-end buildings require.
  • Do I need a Certificate of Insurance (COI) and do you provide them?
Most buildings require COI’s in order for your job to take place. Yes, COI’s are included at no additional cost.
  • How long should I wait before hanging artwork or putting things back on the walls?
Artwork can be rehung within a couple hours after we complete the work. If we are painting window sills, radiator covers, or shelves, we recommend waiting about 5 days to put things back on these surfaces.
  • How should I prepare my home before the painters arrive?
It is helpful if you can remove all fragile or valuable items from the rooms to be painted. And if you have pets, make sure they are in a safe area away from the work zone.
  • Do I need to move furniture before the painting begins?
While we do ask that fragile and small items be packed up and moved, our team will move and cover larger furniture and floors with drop cloths to protect your belongings from dust and paint splatter.
  • Do I need to clean the walls before the painters arrive?
It’s not necessary for you to clean the walls yourself; we’ll take care of the prep work! If necessary, Our team will wash the walls and remove any dirt or grime to ensure a smooth, long-lasting paint job.
  • Can I sleep in the apartment while the work is happening? Is the paint safe for my baby?
Most paints are very low or zero VOC. Any odor dissipates within a couple hours, as the paint dries. If the project involves skim coating or major plaster repairs, it is recommended that you stay somewhere else while the work is happening.
  • Will I need to be home while the painters are working?
It’s not necessary for you to be home during the painting process, but we recommend being available by phone for any questions that may arise. If you're unable to be home when we begin the project, you can give us instructions or a key for access, and we’ll handle the rest.
  • How long does a typical project take?
Timelines depend on the project scope, but most residential interiors are completed within a few days. We'll provide a clear timeline with your estimate.
  • Do you clean up after the job is done?
Yes, we take care of all the clean-up once the job is complete. Our team will remove all drop cloths, tape, and any trash and paint debris, leaving your space spotless.
  • Do you put back furniture, rugs etc. after the job?
Yes, upon completion of the painting work, we will restore any furniture, rugs, TVs, etc.
  • What does the process of painting cabinets involve?
Cabinet painting involves removing knobs or handles, lightly sanding all surfaces to be painted, applying one coat of Stix primer and two coats of finish paint. We do all the work onsite.
  • What type of paint do you use?
We generally recommend Benjamin Moore Regal Select —a high-quality paint that’s readily available in NYC. We also work with other premium brands like Sherwin-Williams Emerald and Behr Marquis. Online brands such as Clare and Backdrop are also great, though keep in mind they require delivery, which could delay the project if you change your mind about the color or we need additional paint. Farrow & Ball is another popular choice, though it’s significantly more expensive.
  • Can I provide my own paint?
Yes, you can provide your own paint, though we do require that it is a high quality product, in order to ensure a great job.
  • Do you have environmentally friendly paints?
Yes. In fact, most paints sold now are very low or zero VOC. We also specialize in Lime Wash and Roman Clay finishes, which are organic and zero VOC, and provide beautiful, textured finish. Visit our Services Page, or see our Gallery for examples.
  • What sheen do you recommend?
We recommend flat finish for ceilings. For walls, matte or eggshell are both great choices. Matte offers a subtle sheen, while eggshell has a slightly higher sheen and works well in areas that see more wear, like kids’ rooms, entryways, and kitchens. For doors and trim, we typically use satin or semi-gloss. Both are very durable, and the choice mainly comes down to your aesthetic preference — semi-gloss has more shine.
  • What’s the difference between the various sheens?
In general, the higher sheens are more durable, so they are more appropriate for high-traffic areas. However, keep in mind that higher sheens tend to highlight surface imperfections more than lower sheens like matte or flat.
  • Do you offer custom finishes or decorative painting services?
Yes, we offer a variety of custom finishes, including Lime Wash, Roman Clay, and stenciling.
  • What is the difference between Lime Wash and Roman Clay?
Lime Wash creates a soft, textured effect with natural variation, while Roman Clay offers a smooth, earthy finish. We’re happy to help you choose the right option.
  • Do you offer wallpaper removal services?
Yes, we can remove old wallpaper and replace it with a fresh coat of paint. Our team ensures a smooth, clean surface for any painting or wallpaper project.
  • WTF is Skim coating?
Skim coating is applying 2–3 thin layers of joint compound on surfaces to smooth out rough textures. It is commonly used on walls and ceilings, and usually needed when surfaces are old, have been painted many times, and have developed an "orange peel" texture. Skim coating evens everything out, so your walls end up smooth and flat.
  • Do you help with choosing colors?
Color choice is usually up to you, but we're happy to offer some general guidance. A great place to start is the Benjamin Moore website. You can also use Benjamin Moore Color Portfolio App and their ColorMatch tool to "try on" colors virtually in your space. Once you’ve narrowed down your favorites, it helps to visit a local Benjamin Moore store to pick up samples, or you can order peel-and-stick samples directly from their site to test at home.
  • How do you charge for painting services?
We offer free estimates based on the size of the space and the scope of the work. Our pricing is transparent and includes all prep work, materials, and labor, with no hidden fees.
  • Is a deposit required before starting the work?
We don’t require a deposit up front. We ask for 50% when we start the job, and the balance upon completion.
  • What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept checks, Zelle, Venmo, and wire transfers. Credit cards and PayPal are also an option, with an additional 3% processing fee.
